West Virginia’s CPS/Opioid Crisis, CRT, CROWN Act, Race, & Diversity w/ WV Delegate Danielle Walker
Heard Tell for Wednesday, April 6th, 2022, is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need on some of the toughest, loudest, most controversial issues of our day with West Virginia Delegate Danielle Walker (D-51, Monongalia). We turn down the noise — and our priors and preconceptions — and have a grown folk talk about the trending issues like CRT and education legislation, the opioid crisis, race, and the economic issues of West Virginia, but also talk about people beyond policies and buzzwords. Del Walker explains why things like the CROWN Act are important and how things like discrimination affect jobs, opportunities, and identity. We discuss the history of minorities in West Virginia and greater Appalachia and the importance of getting all of history told for all of us. Del. Walker also talks about her personal experience of making West Virginia home, legislating in a super minority and still finding ways to get things done, and directly addresses the contention of society needing to be “colorblind” both as an elected official and in a very personal way. Also, we end on some good news as a bill that is very near and dear to Del Walker’s heart brought overwhelming support from both sides…
